ABOUT MATHIEU MATEGOT
Mathieu Matégot, a Hungarian-born French designer, made significant contributions to furniture and metalwork design. Born on April 4, 1910, in Budapest, he moved to Paris in 1931, where he was inspired by Le Corbusier and the modernist movement, sparking his interest in industrial design. Matégot established the Société Matégot to manufacture his creations, but in 1959, he shifted focus back to his passion for tapestry design, becoming a trailblazer in the French modern tapestry movement. His early furniture pieces are housed in prestigious institutions like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and his innovative approach left a lasting impact on the field. In the 1950s and 1960s, Matégot gained recognition for his distinctive furniture designs using perforated metal sheets and tubular steel frames, developing the "Rigitulle" technique as his trademark design aesthetics.
