THEN AND NOW / ACT 01
15.09.24 - 20.12.24
THIS FIRST ACT OF SCENERS GALLERY IS BORN FROM THE SAME OBSESSIVE QUESTIONING OF THE SPECIFICITY OF THE ARTS; THE WORKS COME TOGETHER LIKE A SNAPSHOT OF THE SINUOUS LINES OF 20TH-CENTURY CREATION. SCULPTURAL, PLAYING WITH NOTIONS OF COMFORT AND DISCOMFORT, THESE PIECES STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN THE FUNCTIONAL CONCERNS OF DECORATIVE ARTS AND THE CREATIVE IMPULSE FROM WHICH THEY EMERGE.
IN COLLABORATION WITH HÉLÈNE NGUYEN-BAN, SCENERS GALLERY NOW HAS THE PRIVILEGE OF EXTENDING THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE DECORATIVE ARTS OF THE PAST AND TODAY'S VIEWERS INTO THE REALM OF PAINTING. STEVEN PARRINO, TAKESADA MATSUTANI, YVES KLEIN, EXPAND BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF THEIR ART, AS DO CARLO BUGATTI, REI KAWAKUBO, AND RICK OWENS. THEY BECOME ANCHORING POINTS WHILE OPENING NEW SPACES FOR EXPERIMENTATION. DESIGN, IL DISEGNO, THE LINE, PRESUPPOSES A VIEWER. ONE MUST DRAW TO BE SEEN, CREATE TO APPEAR, AND GIVE MEANING FOR IT TO UNFOLD TODAY.
