ABOUT JORGE ZALSZUPIN
Jorge Zalszupin, born in 1922 in Warsaw, Poland, became a leading figure in Brazilian design and architecture after relocating post-World War II. Trained in European design at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he fused European sophistication with Brazilian vibrancy. Establishing L'Atelier in the 1950s, he crafted modern, elegant furniture using local materials like wood, reflecting Brazilian identity with a contemporary touch. Known for clean lines and harmonious wood-metal combinations, his pieces, like the 'Petalas' coffee table and 'Dinamarquesa' armchair, epitomize structural beauty and craftsmanship. Despite stepping back from furniture design, his legacy endures through timeless designs and mentorship, shaping Brazil's design landscape. Today, Zalszupin's creations remain highly coveted, emblematic of Brazil's design heritage and his lasting impact on mid-century modern design.
