GEORGES JOUVE - BRAVO TORO
Regular price€12.000,00 Sale priceGeorges Jouve (1910–1964) remains a central figure of postwar French ceramics. Trained as a sculptor at the École Boulle, he returned to clay after the war with a modernist clarity that reshaped the discipline. His vessels and sculptural forms distinguished by their taut curves, refined proportions, and the deep black glaze that became his signature, quickly set him apart from traditional potters of the period. Jouve collaborated directly with two of the most influential decorators of his era: Jean Royere and Jacques Adnet, whose interiors defined French modern luxury in the 1950s. Both incorporated Jouve’s ceramics into their schemes, commissioning pieces for bespoke residential and international projects. These collaborations placed Jouve’s work at the heart of the postwar design renaissance. Presented at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and represented by galleries such as Primavera, Jouve’s pieces entered major collections during his lifetime and continue to be acquired by museums and discerning collectors worldwide. His legacy is the transformation of ceramics into a sculptural, architectural art—objects that feel both rigorously modern and quietly timeless.
