ABOUT GAETANO BORSANI
Gaetano Borsani founded the Atelier di Varedo in 1923, at a moment when Italian furniture was still largely tied to historicist decoration. Rooted in the disciplined tradition of Lombard cabinetmaking yet increasingly open to the modern ideas circulating through Milan’s architectural circles, the atelier began to merge craftsmanship with a new structural clarity reminiscent of the Bauhaus spirit. Within this workshop, part studio, part laboratory, the foundations were laid for one of the most remarkable evolutions in Italian design, later carried forward by his son Osvaldo Borsani and the radical industrial vision of Tecno.
