André-Jean Doucin (1926–2009) was a French designer whose work captured the quiet boldness of postwar modernism through an innovative exploration of material and form. Active primarily in the 1970s, Doucin developed a distinctive visual language rooted in the sculptural possibilities of industrial materials, notably aluminum and Plexiglas—elements that were then considered both radical and refined.
Often working at the intersection of art and functional design, Doucin created lighting, furniture, and objects that reflect a subtle yet sophisticated aesthetic. His wall-mounted lights and table lamps, produced around 1970, stand out for their minimal geometries, careful balance of opacity and reflection, and a restrained palette that emphasizes structure over ornament.
Doucin’s pieces, though relatively rare, are increasingly recognized for their purity of line and thoughtful materiality. They resonate with the design ethos of the 1970s, yet transcend the period through their timeless presence—quietly asserting themselves in both private interiors and curated collections.
