Shiro Tsujimura, born in 1947 in Nara, Japan, is a self-taught ceramic artist whose work blends traditional Japanese pottery techniques with wabi-sabi philosophy, emphasizing imperfection and transience. Inspired by an Ido tea bowl, Tsujimura shifted from painting to ceramics, mastering styles like Shigaraki, Iga, and Shino while embracing spontaneity in his firing process. His raw, organic forms reflect a deep connection to nature and spirituality, shaped by his training as a monk and independent spirit. Tsujimura’s works are globally exhibited, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum, affirming his enduring impact on contemporary ceramics.
