Eugenio Quarti (1867–1931), born in Villa d’Almè and trained in Paris and Milan, emerged as one of the leading figures of the Italian Liberty movement, transforming furniture into a form of spatial lyricism. After an early collaboration with Carlo Bugatti, whose Moorish-inspired fantasy shaped his first experiments, Quarti developed a more architectural and disciplined language, crafting elegant works in mahogany and rosewood often enriched with mother-of-pearl, parchment, and metal inlays. Celebrated at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, his creations balanced ornament and structure, curve and line, delicacy and strength, earning him international acclaim. Today, his works are held in major collections, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, standing as lasting testaments to his ability to unite technique and poetry in objects of timeless elegance.
